£35 a mattress, cleaned in the bedroom. Book a morning slot and the bed is back in use by bedtime. Pair it with the bedroom carpet, which is £36 on its own, and the two come to £71, clear of the £67 minimum for one-off work.
Step by step
- You strip the bed before we arrive, protector and all.
- We vacuum the top and the sides with a narrow tool, going slowly along the seams and round any buttons, where the dust collects.
- Marks get a spot treatment matched to what caused them, whether that is sweat, blood, tea or a child’s accident.
- The whole sleeping surface is extracted with the upholstery head, using as little water as the job allows.
- If the mattress has two sleeping sides and you can turn it, we do the second face as well.
- It is left propped up or lying flat with the window open to dry.
Dust and dead skin build up in the top layers of any mattress over the years, and that is what house dust mites live on. A clean takes out a good deal of it. It is not a pest treatment, and we will not call the mattress sterile afterwards.
Old marks
Yellow sweat marks lighten well. Fresh blood comes out with cold water and an enzyme spray; older blood usually leaves a faint brown outline. Urine that has dried in over years leaves a ring at the edge where the salts settled, and that ring tends to stay even when the middle clears and the smell has gone. We point to each mark and tell you before we start which way it is likely to go.
Drying
In a warm room it takes two to four hours. We keep the moisture low for exactly this reason, as foam and springs hang on to damp far longer than a carpet does. If the bedroom is cold, run the heating for an hour after we leave and keep the door open. A mattress that goes back under a sheet while still damp can smell musty for days, so give it the full time.

Bedrooms in W5
Plenty of the bedrooms we work in around Ealing are up in loft conversions, at the top of a narrow flight that was never built for a king-size mattress to travel down. That alone is a good reason to clean it where it is. In the let flats near the Broadway, landlords often book the mattresses at check-out together with the carpets, so the next tenant moves in to a clean bed. For the carpet in the same room, see fitted carpet cleaning; a bedroom armchair (£33) can be added from the upholstery page.
Old marks on other fabrics are covered on the stain page, and all our prices sit in one place.
Questions we get asked
We think there might be bed bugs. Will a clean deal with them?
Sadly not. That is a job for pest control, and running a cleaning machine over an infested mattress spreads the trouble around. Tiny black dots along the seams or a line of bites are the usual signs; get a pest firm in first and ring us once they have signed the room off.
Is memory foam safe to clean?
Yes, with care. Once moisture gets into memory foam it stays a long while, so it gets our lightest pass and longer to dry. Leave the sheets off until the top stops feeling cool to the touch.
Can you do all three children’s mattresses on one visit?
Yes. Each mattress is £35 whatever its size, so three come to £105. Cot mattresses with a wipe-clean cover are easier done by you with warm soapy water; the ones with a fabric top we can clean.
