Perivale is UB6, on the far side of Western Avenue from Ealing, around the Central line station that shares its name. Most of its streets are lined with 1930s semis, which makes pricing a job here unusually easy, because the houses were built to much the same plan.
The 1930s semi, room by room
Downstairs the houses were built with two reception rooms, front and back, and in a lot of houses they have since been knocked through into one long lounge. Upstairs there are two good bedrooms and a box room over the front door, reached by one straight flight of stairs that ends at a small landing. Plenty of these houses have gained a rear extension or a loft room, but the original layout is still there underneath.
Carpeted throughout, that layout prices like this: through lounge £61, two bedrooms at £36 each, the box room at the small-room rate of £29, stairs £41, the landing £9 and the hall £22. Together that is £234. A loft room adds another flight at £41, a landing at £9 and the room itself at £36.

Things we watch for
Stairs in houses of this age are usually the original straight flight, and where the carpet on them is old, the nosings wear shiny first. We work each nosing by hand so the edge does not stay grey while the tread comes up clean. In a through lounge the heaviest wear runs between the hall door and the garden doors, and that strip gets extra passes. A box room used as a home office often has a chair mat and a worn patch under the desk, which is worth pointing out when you book.
Getting there
Where there is a drive and you do not mind the van on it, we pull straight on; otherwise we find a space in the street. The machine then sits by the front door and the hose does the rest, up the one flight and into the bedrooms.
Sofas can be added on the same visit (upholstery prices), and our full rates cover everything else. For a walk through the day itself, read about carpet cleaning; other nearby neighbourhoods are listed on the areas page.
