Roughly a third of our move out cleans come from W3. Acton is the next district east along the Uxbridge Road and a proper centre in its own right rather than an offshoot of Ealing, and the housing is denser and far more mixed than the W5 streets we come from. That changes what we get asked to do here.
The place that washed west London
Acton had hundreds of laundries by the end of the nineteenth century, enough of them that people called it Soapsuds Island, and the dirty washing came out from central London by cart. There is a certain amount of pleasure in still driving into W3 with a van full of cleaning kit well over a century later. Nothing of the trade survives now beyond a few wide yards behind the terraces.
Terraces cut into flats
Most of the Victorian terrace stock here was split into two or three flats decades ago and a lot of it is let. Tenancies are short, which makes move out cleans the single biggest thing we do in W3. A one bedroom conversion is £207 and a two bedroom £243, fixed on the phone before we book. Conversions also come with a shared stair and a communal hall, and we hoover the bit outside your door on the way out because otherwise nobody does.
Ovens and carpets in W3
Landlords book ovens in batches between tenancies at £77 for a single and £110 for a double, with the shelves going into the heated tank in the van. Carpet work in a converted flat is usually one bedroom and a living room, so £36 and £43, and the £67 minimum catches anybody wanting a single room done on its own. Carpets in a let flat are nearly always cheap synthetic rather than wool, which cleans quickly and dries faster, so a two room job here is a morning at most.
Parking, which varies street by street
Seven stations carry the Acton name and the roads around each of them behave differently. Some sit in all day controlled zones and some do not, which is stricter than the two short windows we deal with around Ealing Broadway. We ask which road you are on when you ring rather than guessing. Where there is no legal stop within a hose length we bring the smaller machine indoors and work off a socket, which is slower but beats a ticket.
Coming over from Ealing
We come along the Uxbridge Road from the common, ten minutes outside the school run and considerably more inside it. Gunnersbury Park marks the south eastern edge of our patch; past that you are into Chiswick and we are not the right firm for you.
